Who can and who should take the Working at Heights course:

This course is mandatory by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development for those who are working on a construction site, will be working on a construction, entering a construction site, involved in any construction project or working in an area or machinery that involves height.

At BuildSafe, we are an approved provider of the Working at Heights course by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development Chief Prevention Officer.

Overview of the course:

The Working at Heights course will teach participants about how to understand guardrails, floor covers as well as the responsibility each individual has while they are working in areas of heights.

The course covers both a theoretical as well as a practical portion. Firstly, we will start with the theory which is then followed by a short test and then the practical. During the practical we do provide harnesses and lanyards however, if you do have your own we encourage that you bring them and we can also properly fit them to you. Also, we do have harness and lanyards available for purchase if you need. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive your Working at Heights certification.

The reason for the Working at Heights training is simple; falls are the single largest contributor to construction fatalities (deaths). Therefore, better training should reduce the number of construction workers getting killed due to falls.

2 Main Parts of the course: Fall Prevention & Fall Arrest

Firstly, Fall Prevention:

  • Proper use of ladders
  • Proper scaffold erection
  • Properly built guardrails as well as floor coverings
  • Working from scissor lifts along with travel restraint procedures as well as,
  • Explores different ways workers are falling and discuss the basic safety procedures to otherwise prevent them

Secondly, Fall Arrest:

  • Proper use and wearing of the harness
  • Proper use of using a lanyard when working at heights
